Plans to create a new route through a York suburb will be discussed at a public meeting.
Leeman Road is soon to be closed off as part of the development of York Central.
A new road will be built in its place which developers say will provide “a safer and improved route into the city”.
Members of the public are invited to St Barnabas Church on Jubilee Terrace to see the plans of the new road and to meet with members of the project team to have any questions answered.
The first phase of the new road will provide an alternative to Leeman Road running from Salisbury Road to Marble Arch.
Wider foot and cycle paths will be built alongside the new road.
No date has been revealed for the closure of Leeman Road, but it could happen next month.
Public meeting
The public are encouraged to attend the event on Wednesday 7 May from 2pm to 8pm at St Barnabas Church, Jubilee Terrace, Leeman Rd, York YO26 4YZ
Leon Guyett, project director on behalf of Homes England and Network Rail, said: “The opening of the first phase of the new road is a huge step forward for the project, providing safer and more attractive journeys into the city centre for pedestrians, cyclists, bus users and car drivers.
“The diversion of Leeman Road onto this new route will not only provide modern sustainable transport infrastructure but will also assist in unlocking York Central for new homes, public realm and commercial space.”
York Central will see up to 2,500 homes built, alongside more than one million square feet of commercial space for offices, retail and leisure.
The development will also enable a multi-million pound extension to the National Railway Museum and a new western railway station entrance.
More details are on the York Central website.
