A York hotel has announced plans to create a “luxury city centre spa”.
The Grand York is to invest £2.5 million into its spa facilities, which will undergo a major renovation.
Treatment rooms will be redesigned and new facilities introduced, including a Tirol hot sauna, Himalayan salt sauna, a state-of-the-art large hydrotherapy pool and foot spas.
The Grand York will convert two bedrooms into treatment rooms as part of the works.
Relaxation spaces will be expanded, ‘advanced wellness technologies’ introduce, and a restaurant area added for spa day package holders.
The hotel’s spa will close next month for the transformation, with the new facilities set to open early in 2026.
During the closure, guests will be offered options including in-room gym kits, Grand running routes and use of Grand bicycles enabling guests to explore the city.
Emma Sorby, spa director at The Grand York, said: “We are reimagining what a luxury city centre spa can be – a holistic wellness sanctuary that connects guests with the latest in relaxation and rejuvenation all whilst in the heart of York city centre.

“By introducing a new variation of thermal offerings and elevated experiences, we will allow guests to break away from the hustle and bustle of the city.”
Adam Dyke, the hotel’s general manager, added: “This transformation marks an exciting new chapter for The Grand York, reaffirming our dedication to providing world-class luxury experiences.
“As we embark on this significant renovation to become the UK’s most loved city centre hotel spa, we are investing in the future of wellness hospitality, ensuring our guests have access to the very best in relaxation and rejuvenation.
“The new spa will not only enhance our offering but also set a new benchmark for urban wellness in the UK. We look forward to welcoming guests to a truly reimagined space that blends innovation, tranquillity, and indulgence in the heart of York.”
