The actor and former Minster FM and Yorkshire Television presenter Kathryn Apanowicz has died at the age of 64.
Her death was announced today (Monday) following a long illness.
Kathryn grew up in Horsforth, Leeds, and lived in East Witton, near Leyburn.
She started in showbusiness early, as a child performer in Yorkshire Television’s Junior Show Time, alongside Mark Curry.
She was also in the film Bugsy Malone.
Then Kathryn turned her hand to presenting on ITV Yorkshire’s Calendar.
She was also one of the first presenters on Minster FM when the station launched in 1992.
Kathryn found national fame as nurse Rose Butchins in BBC soap Angels.
She had quite a soap pedigree – she went on to become Dirty Den’s mistress Mags in EastEnders and also had roles in Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.
She was later a guest presenter on BBC Radio York.
Kathryn was the partner of Richard Whiteley from 1994 until his death in 2005. She then wrote the biography Richard by Kathryn.
Former ITV Calendar presenter Christa Ackroyd paid tribute to her great friend on Facebook today.
She said: “Reunited with her beloved Richard. I will miss you so much my lovely friend. What adventures we had. The world will always be a duller place without you.”
