It used to be the home to a Frankie & Benny’s restaurant, which served up a slice of nostalgic New York Italian-style cooking.
But what’s moving in now couldn’t be more different.
A brand new virtual reality experience is due to open soon in the former restaurant at Clifton Moor.
New business OliViaR describes itself as York’s ‘only free roam VR experience’, and is aiming to bring together friends and family for adventures into immersive worlds.
A ‘free roam’ experience is described as an experience where visitors can move freely around the space and can walk or run while playing – therefore creating an immersive and interactive gaming experience.
An opening date for the new venture is yet to be announced, but the work to transform the building is well underway.

ObliViaR have been sharing behind-the-scenes progress pictures on their Facebook, TikTok and Instagram pages – with the promise of more updates to come.
This will be York’s only VR experience, since Play it VR in Acomb has closed, so fans of virtual reality gaming will be looking forward to the opening.
And it’s right next to the Vue cinema, so could be an ideal way to combine a leisure night out – a film and VR fun.
More is yet to be announced for this all-new gaming adventure – so watch this space!
