Residents of a quiet York street were shocked when a police chase ended on their doorstep this morning (Thursday).
A car being pursued by a number of police vehicles crashed into a 30mph sign on Willow Bank in New Earswick.
Although the driver then ran off, police pursued him and made an arrest.
Crash location
They said the car contained a large quantity of what is suspected to be a Class A-drugs.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 11.30am today , officers attempted to stop a VW Polo on Eastfield Avenue in Haxby. It failed to stop and was pursued by officers into New Earswick.
“The driver then abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby allotments, but officers were hot on his heels and he was detained a short time later.”

A witness told YorkMix there were about five police cars on site straight away: “I heard a lot of sirens.
“A car was driving very fast, lost its grip, hit the kerb and cleaned up the 30mph sign, and carried on down to the grass verge.
“A guy got out, legged it round the back and into the house next door.”
A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit due to alcohol or drugs, driving whilst disqualified, driving with no insurance, possession with the intent to supply a Class A drug, dangerous driving and failing to stop.
