This is what York’s new banking hub will look like.
Plans are now in to turn the Halifax on York Road, Acomb, into the hub after that branch closes in May.
The new permanent banking hub will include an external free ATM, a counter with up to two members of staff to serve private and business customers of all major banks 9am to 5pm every weekday, and a private room for appointments with representatives of different major banks each day.
Planning documents state: “Cash Access UK Limited is a not-for-profit company set up by a number of UK banks and building societies to enable consumers and small businesses to access cash, deposit and basic banking services where they are needed across the UK.
“The company will facilitate the provision of a range of services including shared banking spaces on local high streets.”
Politicians campaigned to get the banking hub after the closure of the Halifax leaves the York Outer constituency with no bank branches.
The hub is due to open immediately after that closure to ensure continuation of service.
The planning application is for new signage, to remove one cash machine and replace a second and to instal an air conditioning unit on the roof.
