The brother of a young man whose body was recovered from the river in York has paid a heartfelt tribute to him.

University of York student Taymoor Hassan went missing last Wednesday. His body was recovered from the River Foss the following day.

Police don’t believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Mr Hassan was from Bradford. In a statement to Bradford newspaper the Telegraph & Argus, his brother Tayyab Shahzada shared this tribute

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Taymoor, who tragically left us at the young age of 19.

“Taymoor was a dedicated student at the University of York, where he was pursuing his passion for cybersecurity.

“A proud graduate of St Bede’s School in Bradford, he was the youngest of four siblings and cherished by his family.

“On the early morning of Wednesday, December 4, Taymoor passed away, leaving a void in the hearts of those who loved him.

“He was known for his kindness and willingness to help others, always putting everyone else first.

“Taymoor had a passion for fashion, shoes and hair, and his vibrant personality shone through, making him popular and confident despite his vision challenges.

“Taymoor was a hard worker with dreams of travelling and was eagerly planning to go on Umrah with his mum.

“He was close to all of his family, including those who lived far away, and was often spoiled by his siblings as the baby of the family.

“We are all shocked and heartbroken by this loss and are struggling to come to terms with it.

“Taymoor will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the memories we share.

“Further details for funerals and burial will be shared via Janaza Announcements.”

Mr Hassan’s friends raised the alarm after he was last seen at 2am last Wednesday on his walk home.

They said his last location was pinged on the York riverside. They were extremely worried about him as his disappearance was out of character and he was visually impaired.
