Drivers are being warned of disruption on the A64 starting within days.
National Highways will be upgrading drainage on the road and say this will cause delays.
The maintenance, due to take place near Crambeck, will increase the drainage capacity, prevent standing water and improve safety on the route.
Work location
Work will start on Friday (15 November) and will take place throughout the weekend until the morning of Monday, 18 November, weather permitting.
It means there will be temporary traffic lights on the A64 at the junctions at Castle Howard Station Road and Greets House Road.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “Drivers planning to travel in this area are strongly advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow more time to reach their destination.
“Some of this work will be unavoidably noisy. We will do everything we can to minimise disruption but would like to apologise in advance for any disturbance caused by this much needed work.”
