The first headliner at three music and racing events in York was unveiled today – and chart topper Olly Murs is delighted to be back.
The big news was revealed exclusively on YorkMix Radio this morning by York Racecourse head of marketing and sponsorship James Brennan.
He said: “It is great news that Olly Murs, a performer who wowed the crowds on his previous visits here, will be performing for us, it will herald a month for music and racing fans to remember.”
Olly will star on Saturday 28 June , a new raceday in the Knavesmire calendar for next season, as he plays after the sporting action.
The Knavesmire gig will form part of a busy touring schedule for a man who found the nation’s hearts through X Factor and remains one of the most popular performers of his generation.
Still making fresh music, hits like Troublemaker, Dear Darlin’ and Heart Skips a Beat will ensure a fun afternoon.
Racing and music fans can take advantage of a price freeze on general admission, meaning entrance to the main Grandstand and Paddock enclosure starts at £38 per person for a group of six.
As well as free car parking, there are no booking fees. To book visit the website.
On the racecourse itself, the racing action will see seven thoroughbred contests with combined prize money of at least £275,000.
It promises to be a fun filled summer for racing and music fans as there are four other racedays scheduled for this popular time of year; the traditional highlight of the 66th John Smith’s Cup Meeting (Friday 11 and Saturday 12 July) will be followed by the Music Showcase Weekend itself at the end of July.
The music acts for the only Friday evening of York’s year, 25 July and for Music Showcase Saturday on 26 July are yet to be confirmed, so keep checking the course’s website for further announcements.
The first of the combined racing and music extravaganzas officially goes on sale at 9am on Friday 31 October at the racecourse website.
