News, Things to do

Legendary rock band Elbow to perform in York next year – as York Museum Gardens announce the return of their live concert series.

Live at York Museum Gardens will return for its second run of shows in July 2025 in what is set to be a weekend of fantastic performances.

And the first headliner has been announced! Manchester rock band Elbow will perform at the Gardens on Thursday 3 July 2025, and joined by special guests Billie Marten and Eliza Carthy & The Restitution.

A York exclusive postcode presale (YO1, YO24, YO30, YO31 & YO32) will go on sale at 10am Thursday 10 October – tickets available here.

Tickets will go on general sale on Friday 18 October at 10am. Tickets will be available here.

The inaugural concert weekend was a sell-out success last year, and saw 12,000 music fans enjoy performances from the likes of Jack Savoretti, Peter Doherty, and York-favourites Shed Seven.

The future of the outdoor concerts was put at risk when a single noise complaint led to a review of the premises licence of Museum Gardens – but after a licensing hearing it was decided that no further action would be taken.

Live at York Museum Gardens is a joint collaboration between Leeds-based Fututresound Group and York Museums Trust.

Rachel Hill, project manager at Futuresound Group said, “We are absolutely thrilled to be working with the York Museum Gardens team once more for another great event.

“This year was such a proud moment for all involved. Witnessing how incredibly important it is to the people of York, their support and how it was received is so heartwarming. Seeing the city come to light and witnessing the benefits of the economic impact was a wonderful thing.”

The outdoor concert will once again be set against the backdrop of the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey.

More acts are set to be announced for this special music festival – so watch this space!

Richard Saward, head of operations at York Museums Trust, said, “We are excited to welcome the concerts back to York Museum Gardens in 2025.

“The events last year brought in new audiences to the city and the gardens, with the income we raised invested back into our museums, galleries and collections.”
