York residents out by the river last night were treated to a magical scene.
Out of the darkness a flotilla of illuminated boats made their way up the River Ouse.
The vessels large and small were bedecked with sparkling lights, brightening an early autumn evening.
The skippers honked their horns and waved to people gathered on the bridges and the river banks to watch and film the procession.
As well as putting a smile on many faces, the event was for a good cause.
Organised by York Motor Yacht Club, it was the ‘Atlantic Rally With The Paroarmedics’ fundraiser.
The ParOARMedics are three paramedics preparing for the World’s Toughest Row – rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic to raise money for three charities. Read more about them here.
The York Rescue Boat was part of the convoy. They posted on social media: “Tonight our volunteers had the privilege of escorting the brave ParOARmedics and the lovely members of York Motor Yacht Club through our lovely city before their amazing trans-Atlantic row.
“The city did them proud with people lining the bridges and cheering all the way. We wish them all the best for fair winds and a safe passage. “
