A furniture store has shut its York city centre branch.
But an empty shop just yards away may soon be opening again.
The store to have shut is Edwardian Bedding, which has its HQ in Mexborough, South Yorkshire. It only opened on Colliergate in February.
At the time, the operations manager Adam Swingler told the York Press that they were “trying to bring furniture into the centre of York, no one’s really doing it anymore.
“We want to offer something in the centre that can only be found in the retail parks now.
“People deserve to get things in the city centre, rather than having to go out to Clifton Moor and Monks Cross.”
The firm has moved out after its lease was up.
However, another empty unit nearby is under offer. Number 22 Colliergate, which used to be part of Barnitt’s, has been on the market since March.
The shop was marketed by Carter Towler with a rent of £29,750. The new tenant has not yet been made public.
