A craft company’s plans for a central operations hub at a York business park have been approved.
Bugsweed’s Retail Ltd’s is a York-based business, offering a one-stop-shop for all things crafts.
Their plans for Unit 3 in Clifton Moor’s Marrtree Business Park includes space for displaying products, a craft studio offering classes and tuition, storage and sewing machine repairs.
The application approved by City of York Council stated the site would become a central hub for operations, business and expansion at a superb location on the outskirts of the city.
The Marrtre Business Park is on the site of a former B&M store, which was destroyed following a fire caused by a discarded cigarette in 2018.
Plans for the recently constructed business park were approved in 2022 and work began in January last year.
Bugsweed’s Retail Ltd is part of the Budsweed’s Group of Companies Ltd which focuses on the craft industry.
It stocks quilting and dressmaking fabrics, haberdashery, knitting, crochet and pattern printing.
It also sells sewing machines, offers servicing and repairs, as well as craft courses and events for both adults and children.
The hub proposed at the business park would feature areas designed to support the different parts of Bugsweed’s business operations.
A mezzanine floor would be installed to accommodate storage and distribution facilities.
Plans stated the development would help to expand an existing company’s business.
The plans read: “The unit subject of this application is about to receive investment from a future tenant and be brought into use.
“The unit will provide a unique working and business environment bespoke to Bugsweed’s Group’s offering, market and customer base and will become and central hub for operations, growth and expansion.”
Marrtree’s Clifton Moor Business Park is one of three the company owns in North Yorkshire, with others in Thirsk and Wetherby.
