Police have sealed off a riverside footpath this morning (Thursday).
The cordon is on New Walk, the foot and cycle path from Skeldergate Bridge to Blue Bridge.
People are being asked to find another route while the investigation continues.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Please be aware that police have temporary closed the riverside path from Skeldergate Bridge to Blue Bridge (New Walk) while they investigate the scene of a reported crime.
“Please use an alternative pedestrian route to and from the city centre until further notice.
“An update and appeal will be posted later this morning.”
