Rail travel from York to London continues to be badly disrupted today, with many services being cancelled.

As YorkMix reported last night, some train journeys south were abandoned after overhead cables were damaged near Stevenage.

The problems are ongoing. Train operator LNER said this morning (Saturday): “Due to damage to the overhead wires yesterday evening, there are numerous cancellations and alterations to our services today.

“Please check your journey prior to travel.”

Grand Central trains said: “Due to damage to the overhead wires between Doncaster – London Kings Cross, Grand Central services will be terminated at/started from Doncaster/York until further notice.”

National Rail gave this update: “The overhead wires sustained severe damage yesterday evening between Stevenage and Hitchin.

“Whilst engineers work to repair the damage all lines are closed between Stevenage and Hitchin.

“Trains running between London and Cambridge / Peterborough may be cancelled or revised.

“Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.”

The latest updates from LNER are showing delays of up to six hours on services going to London.

Here is the latest advice from train companies.
