A basement bar is due to open next month after being granted an alcohol licence.
The bar will be underneath the York Riverside Apartments on the corner of Clifford Street and Lower Friargate.
It is principally for the use of the residents staying at the apartments. But the public will be able to use the bar by pre-booking a visit.
The apartments were created by businessman Joe Moore, who has run a number of York restaurants and who also runs Lounge 46 on Walmgate.
City of York Council granted permission for the bar to serve alcohol from 10am until 1pm every day, following a licensing hearing.
It will feature a pool table and darts board, and will serve beer, wine and cocktails.
Joe has plans to have live music nights there, and it will also be available for private hire.
The bar is soundproofed so as to protect both the holidaymakers staying in the apartments, and the building’s neighbours.
Conditions agreed with North Yorkshire Police was that the bar “will be used primarily by holiday guests that have booked into the upper apartments. Non-residential patrons will be required to book with a minimum of three hours advance notice.”
