A police officer who was convicted for stalking a woman now faces a misconduct hearing.
The accelerated hearing for PC 702 Joe Daniel will take place on Friday 7 June at North Yorkshire Police HQ in Northallerton.
Chief Constable Tim Forber will chair the meeting.
PC Daniel is alleged to have breached the standard of professional behaviour due to discreditable conduct.
The allegation reads: “On or about 28th March 2024 at Leeds and Scarborough, pursued a course of conduct which amounted to the stalking of Miss A which you knew or ought to have known amounted to the harassment of her in that you made repeated unwanted contact with Miss A and attended the vicinity of her home address.”
On 5 April at York Magistrates’ Court, Daniel pleaded guilty and was subsequently convicted of stalking without fear of violence. He was remanded on conditional bail for sentencing.
He could be found guilty of gross misconduct at next week’s hearing.
Parts of the hearing may be held in private “to protect sensitive and confidential information,” say North Yorkshire Police. “Reporting restrictions may also be made at the discretion of the chair.”
