A large York pub has reopened under new management.
The Brigadier Gerard, Monkgate, is back open after a period of closure – and there’s a new team in charge,
The pub has been taken over by Michael Smail, and his wife Jean.
The Brigadier Gerard is part of Tadcaster brewers Samuel Smith. It has been a bit of a bumpy road for the Brigadier Gerard, as it has faced a couple of sudden closures, both back in 2018 and also last year.
On draught, the Brigadier Gerard currently has Samuel Smith’s Taddy Lager, Old Brewery Bitter, Extra Stout, Cider Reserve and Dark Mild. Samuel Smith pubs brew all their own beer and make all their own cider, and only stock their own products.
Like other Samuel Smith establishments, it is a ‘Digital Detox’ pub, meaning that there are no TVs or background music and the use of mobile phones, laptops, and other devices are not allowed. Swearing is also prohibited.
Inside, the Brigadier Gerard is large and spacious with a lounge, tap room, pool table, and has a outdoor courtyard. The new landlord, Michael, is friendly and welcoming.
The Brigadier Gerard is open Monday to Saturday, 11am to 11pm, and Sundays 12pm to 10:30pm.
