Part of York’s historic walls will be closed to the public from today (Monday).
The city walls will shut between Micklegate Bar and Station Rise every day until Friday 28 June.
Originally the council said the stretch would be open at weekends. But now that has been changed and the closure will include weekends.
City of York Council say: “This is to allow for the construction of a new retaining wall and rampart, following the removal of Queens Street Bridge.
“Access gates will be locked, and signs informing of the closure and how to rejoin the wall walk will be in place.”
The bridge used to help shore up the city walls. The retaining wall is being created to ensure the medieval walls remain stable.
Laser measuring systems are in place to check the fortifications are not put at risk by the work to create a new approach to York Station.
