A York shop has launched a closing down sale after the owner took the ‘incredibly difficult decision’ to shut.
Elena Ferrara Bridal has been running for eight years, and for most of that time has operated from a shop on Goodramgate.
But it will shut imminently. Elena explained how difficult a decision that was in a heartfelt post on the business’s social media channels.
“Being in the bridal business has been particularly challenging over the past few years, especially since the devastating impact of Covid on our industry,” she wrote.
“There have been so many hurdles that have been thrown at me since having the business, which I have successfully overcome, but it has been tough.
“I have felt the challenges personally and I have found it really hard to deal with. It is also difficult to maintain a healthy work and home life balance, especially when trying to juggle the demands of work, brides, children, school, home and everything else.
“I have struggled to make this decision as I absolutely love what I do. I have had the most fabulous time and met the most wonderful girls.

“There has been so many laughs and tears, and friendships forged over the last few years, which I will miss immensely.
“Thank you to all my brides from the bottom of my heart for supporting me and my bridal dream. It has been an absolute pleasure and honour to have been with you on your bridal journey and I treasure every single moment.”
She said she has contacted all her current brides personally.
Elena comes from a family of skilled tailors and dressmakers and has a fashion design degree from the London College of Fashion.
After a time in the creative industries she began making “pretty flower girl dresses” in 2008 before fulfilling her dream to create her own bridal label when Elena Ferrara Couture was launched in 2016.
The shop’s closing down sale has begun, where “everything is now reduced by 50%,” Elena said. “You can find immaculate dresses and separates for less than £1,000.
“There is also beautiful selection of veils and accessories too. So now is the opportunity to grab a bargain and find that perfect dress.”
Her customers paid tribute to Elena and her team. One said: “So sorry to read this. I’ll be forever grateful for everything you did to support me.”
“I feel very lucky that you were part of my bridal experience and will treasure those memories forever,” said another.
Elena Ferrara Bridal is based in Lady Row, the Grade I listed building dating from 1316 which is the earliest row of houses surviving in York.
It has been in the news recently as two other businesses in Lady Row have been challenged by the council over their signage.
