A new shop is to open soon in York city centre.
And it will bring a little taste of Italy – via Paris – to Parliament Street.
Ice cream shop Amorino “serves authentic Italian gelato from a meticulous selection of natural ingredients”.
York’s Amorino shop is now being fitted out 39 Parliament Street. The building was last home to Australian based travel agents Flight Centre. It opened in 2018 but closed two years later, a victim of Covid-19.
Before that it was the Monsoon Children fashion shop.
Amorino opened its first store in the heart of Paris in 2002. It was founded by two childhood friends, Cristiano Sereni and Paolo Benassi, who originate from northern Italy.
The website says: “Amorino sets itself apart thanks to its philosophy of only using carefully sourced ingredients all of which are free of preservatives, artificial flavours and flavour enhancers, to make their artisanal gelati.
“Then, using a spatula, the gelati are shaped like a rose, making them both unique as well as appetising and easily recognisable.
“Customers may choose as many different flavours as petals on the flower, select the size of cone or cup and add a gelato-filled macaron to top their creation, just like a cherry on a cake.
“A wide range of hot and cold drinks is also available and the most demanding customers can create their own milkshake or sorbet drink with the flavours of their choice.”
Until now, the nearest Amorino to York was the one at Victoria Gate in Leeds.
