There’ll be an increase in both York Park and Ride bus fares and the frequency of some services, it was announced today (Wednesday).

First York buses on its Service 2 route from Rawcliffe Bar will be permanently increased to every ten minutes Monday to Friday and eight minutes on Saturdays.

The bus operator is also adding additional journeys on services 2, 7, 8 and 9 to support travel during the Easter holidays from 25 March-6 April.

First York and City of York Council have jointly announced the rise in fares on the Park and Ride network, which they operate in partnership.

The new prices are effective from this Sunday (24 March).

  • A day return for adults will rise by 20p to £3.80
  • Ticket bundles for trips over five, 10 and 20 days will make the return journey £3.40
  • A Park and Ride weekly ticket will rise by 80p to £15.20
  • A child return fare for children travelling alone will increase by 10p to £1.90.

Some charges haven’t changed:

  • The concessionary fare (for older/disabled bus pass holders boarding at any P&R site) will be frozen at £1.30
  • Three children aged 16 and under can still travel free with an adult.

The changes come after an annual review and see fare increases in line with inflation over the past year.

Cllr Pete Kilbane, executive member for economy and transport at City of York Council, said: “York’s Park and Ride remains a competitively priced and environmentally friendly way to commute into or visit the city.

“For many people, especially families, the Park and Ride will be cheaper than parking in the city and parents can take advantage of children travelling for free. Residents and tourists are also encouraged to become ‘congestion busters’ and help create a healthier city.”

Kayleigh Ingham added: “Using the Park and Ride for leisure and work-related travel provides excellent value with free parking and we have continued to ensure that the average cost per trip of making multiple journeys remains low.”
