After being rated by Tripadvisor the number one best place for pizza in York, I had to try Cresci Pizza for myself.
My expectations for the small pizza joint in Piccadilly were high, given that one Tripadvisor user said they had enjoyed ‘The best pizza I’ve had outside of Italy’.
Upon arrival, I found the restaurant to be cosy and welcoming, the staff were friendly and attentive from beginning to end.
The menu included a range of fried bucatini starters, classic pizzas and seasonal pizzas, meaning there is something for everyone. Price ranges from £4.50 for starters and £6.50 to £13 for mains.
I tried the margarita, as I believe any pizza joint is as good as their margarita, given that if they can’t perfect the simplest form of pizza, then all the other choices with the bells and whistles can’t be much better.
The pizza arrived after about ten minutes, and it looked spectacular. It was soft and thin, with a nice ratio of tomato sauce to cheese, which ensured neither overpowered the other. The crust of the pizza juxtaposed the rest, as it was crispy and provided great texture to the pizza.
I paired the pizza with a rose pinot grigio from their wine menu, which was crisp and fruity and paired very well with the pizza and was priced at £26 for the bottle. If you fancy something a bit cheaper than that the restaurant also has soft drink available for £3.50.
Overall, Cresci Pizza lived up to the hype. The pizza was delicious, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Moreover, the restaurant itself was nicely decorated and clean.
I would rate them a 4.5/5, removing .5 because i feel the menu could be expanded to include other Italian items, such as calzones or even pasta but the pizza itself was good enough to warrant a high score.
