A unique horse event that’s fun for all the family is coming to a stables near York.
South Lodge Stables, just outside Wilberfoss, are a family-run livery yard who run regular horse shows throughout the year – but have been looking to do something a bit different.
The Hobby Horse Show will take place at South Lodge Stables on Sunday 14 April 2024 from 10am.
Hobby horsing is a sport that first originated in Finland, where participants use hobby horses in sequences similar to show jumping or dressage – without the use of real horses.
“Hobby Horse shows are very popular in Europe but not really been promoted in the UK,” said Andrea Peel, co-owner of South Lodge Stables.
“This will be a fun family day out doing something completely different.”
The event will be offering two all-weather surfaces for the show, with one arena for jumping and the other arena for flatwork. Both arenas will be open for all ages, from toddlers to grandparents.
Rosettes will be given out for 1-6th place and sashes for championship classes.
The stables will be hiring out hobby horses for the day, and refreshments will be available.
The schedule for the event is yet to be released, but keep up to date and find out more about South Lodge Stables at their website.
