A York shop received an ‘hilarious’ letter from a customer this week – apologising profusely for the actions of their ‘moronic husband’.
The couple, from Rugby, popped into donut shop Doe Bakehouse for a cake and coffee on a recent trip to York.
It was only when they got home that the letter writer, known only as Ian, discovered that his husband had taken a souvenir with him – one of Doe’s lamps.
After admonishing his husband “for a few days”, Ian returned the lamp along with the letter. You can read it in full below.
The bakehouse shared the letter on their social media with the message: “You’ve made my week with this letter.”
“We thought it was hilarious,” a spokesperson from Doe told YorkMix.
“We’ve got a few lamps in the city centre shop and we had no idea one had gone! Initially I thought a child might have taken it and an embarrassed parent had anonymously returned it and then I found the note and had to share it on Instagram.

Dear lovely people at DOE.
We popped in to your bakery one day whilst on a recent trip to York. We loved, LOVED, loved your cakes and stopped for a coffee.
My husband loved it so much he thought it appropriate to ‘help himself’ to a little keepsake from the place and when I found out, well – let’s just say he had a bad few days!
I assume you are a small business, and you’ve worked hard to make something that you wanted to do, come to life. I know how hard that is, how exhausting and how expensive, as I used to own my own restaurants and cafes in the past.
So I also understand the frustration of people ‘taking’ things for fun – it’s not big and it’s not clever and TRUST ME – my 56 year old husband knows that too now!
I insisted he packed this up and post it back to you, but he does not know I added this letter in!
On behalf of morons everywhere, I apologise for his stupid behaviour. He’s actually not an idiot full-time, but for some reason he likes to do a few hours helping all the other morons achieve a high standard once in a while.
