If you wanted a real taste of being a Viking, one shop was offering it to residents and visitors.
You could try Viking’s Blood during a tasting event in York Whisky Shop in the Coppergate Centre.
The event during the Jorvik Viking Festival featured various drinks from the Lancashire Mead Company, from the delightfully fruity Elderberry Mead to the tangy, sweet Freya’s Mead.

Experts from Lancashire Mead Company were on hand to share insights into the history and production methods of mead, a favourite of the Vikings.
“It was a great one,” says Christopher Dunn, manager of The Whisky Shop. “We always like to welcome small distillers like this, it’s a great way to bring people in to try their products.
“The Viking’s Blood was a real treat, definitely a fan favourite.”
This melomel – a fruited honey mead – stole the show with its bold flavours and smooth fruity finish.
The Whisky Shop is always looking to host further local talent. Previously, Yorkshire based whisky company Filey Bay have stopped by to showcase limited ranges, as well as historic Scottish distillers such as Balblair and Benriach.
