A York road is being dug up for the fourth time in a year – causing city centre traffic congestion.
Skeldergate is shut from today (Monday) for three weeks.
The roadworks are another set of gas main repairs by Northern Gas Networks.
Barriers have gone up at the junction between Skeldergate, Micklegate and Ouse Bridge.
Temporary traffic lights are now in operation, causing tailbacks both ways.
Skeldergate is still accessible via Fetter Lane or Bishopgate Street at the other end.
Northern Gas Networks closed Skeldergate for more than four weeks between January and March 2023 to replace metal gas pipework with “more durable plastic pipes”.
Then in July, Skeldergate shut again for three weeks of improvement works aiming to improve cyclists’ safety.
And it was last closed in October for more gas works.
