A York businessman is urging the council to take action after it placed a “No Entry” sign outside the door of his restaurant.
The road sign is now directly in front of Trio Kitchen & Bar on Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma Gate.
It even blocks the restaurant’s name – and is stopping passing trade, says owner Mehmet Simsek.

The restaurant had seen a “dramatic” loss in takings during the six weeks when Trio was hidden by the work to install anti-terror bollards on Colliergate.
It was during that work that the council’s contractors “temporarily” moved the ‘No entry’ sign from the edge of the pavement to its position in front of Trio’s door.
But Mr Simsek, who runs Trio with his family, says he asked when it was going to be moved back – and was told that the sign was going to be left there permanently.

“I don’t want it right in front of my restaurant,” he told YorkMix.
“It’s like saying, ‘Don’t enter my restaurant’. We are having difficulties as it is anyway.
“I thought the council should be there to help us. I feel they are trying to stop me running my business.”
James Gilchrist, director of transport, environment and planning at City of York Council, said: “We can confirm that a no entry sign has been in place in this location for many years.
“The signpost was slightly adjusted during 2023 to allow for the installation of the hostile vehicle measures, but there are plans to reposition it nearer to the road within the coming months.”
No date has been given for the relocation.
