A new production of Calendar Girls the Musical is coming to York – and audiences can meet members of the local WI Federation during the week of the show.
The smash hit musical by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth, is inspired by the true story of the Calendar Girls.
Following the death of a much-loved husband, a group of ordinary women in a small Yorkshire Women’s Institute are prompted to do an extraordinary thing and set about creating a nude calendar to raise money for charity.
Calendar Girls is at the Grand Opera House York from Tuesday 6 to Saturday 10 February 2024.
In true community spirit and celebrating the storyline featuring a group of ordinary women in a small Yorkshire Women’s Institute, members of the local York and North Yorkshire region WI Federation will be present in the public areas of the theatre with leaflets and information – giving audience members the chance to enquire about the groups.
Janice Whiteford WI adviser for North Yorkshire East Federation of WIs said: “I think it’s marvellous that we’re able to highlight all the groups available in the area during the week of the show at the Grand Opera House.
“There are lots of WI groups in the York and North Yorkshire East areas and we’d love to chat about the fun we have and encourage new people to join.”
The tour is supporting Blood Cancer UK, and during the week of the performances in York, collections will also take place at the theatre to increase awareness and raise additional funds.
Calendar Girls the Musical brings together a stunning cast of music, stage, and television stars – including Eastenders’ Laurie Brett and Nolan Sister Maureen Nolan.
Tickets start from £13 and are available via the Grand Opera House website.
