For one night only, The Falcon on Micklegate will be transformed into a pirate ship sailing the high seas – in this special immersive event.
The York pub will be hosting A Pirate Night today (Friday) from 4pm to midnight.
It will be the first event for the small independent business The Siren’s Rest. Founded by Lottie Adcock, it is a unique mobile bar service that aims to bring an immersive experience to events and festivals.
“After 10 years in the industry I saw an opportunity to combine my enjoyment of nerd culture, love of theatre, crafting, decorating and set-building and my copious hospitality experience to bring a new unique concept to the mobile bar market,” said Lottie.
Lottie, who is also assistant manager at The Falcon, will be transforming the pub into a pirate tavern for the night – complete with fish nets, pirate flags and cargo crates.
“A lot of the decorations I’ve made myself, particularly trying to repurpose things like old bottles from the bar to use as candle holders and boxes from deliveries I’ve transformed into crates.
“I’ve been staining a lot of paper with tea to make treasure maps!”
Lottie has also created ‘wanted’ posters for all the staff members at The Falcon, which will be decorating the walls.
“I’ve worked really hard to get creative and come up with little nods to the theme to hopefully enhance the environment for our customers.”
As well as the decoration, the drink and entertainment offering will also be pirate-themed too.
There will be a Docks Beer tap takeover as well as tasting boards of Pirate’s Grog rum – flavours will include pineapple spiced, smoked ginger, cherry and vanilla, and roast coffee.
Live music will come from local band Colleen’s Fancy from 7pm, as well as a Shanty singalong around 9pm.
Lottie hopes that this will be the first of many events for The Siren’s Rest.
“I’m hoping to take The Siren’s Rest to festivals and other events locally this year but nothing is in the books quite yet!”
As well as a pirate theme, The Siren’s Rest can create other magical and fantastical experiences such as a high tea in a gothic mansion. Find out more at their website here.
Become a pirate for the night and head on down to The Falcon from 4pm – it’s going to be arrrrr-some!
The event is for over 18s only.
