A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire crews have been in attendance overnight at three locations in Selby: Honeysuckle Close, Heather Close and Baffam Gardens, pumping water away preventing water from entering residential premises.”
Operations ended at Baffam Gardens 4.44am as water levels receded.
Vicki Smith, who was helping to coordinate the response, posted on Facebook: “1am and I have just got home.
“What a huge effort by many, many people tonight. A massive thank you is owed to every single person tonight from me, for helping to get sandbags to hundreds of houses! So thank you!”
As we reported last night, householders in streets including Heather Close, Baffam Gardens, Honeysuckle Close, Marigold Close, Myrtle Avenue, Danescroft saw floodwaters threatening their homes.
Family-run Selby hauliers collected sandbags from their customer UK Sandbags and delivered them to the most needy parts of Brayton.
A flood warning for the River Aire at Brayton remains in place. It says: “Levels remain high on the River Aire. Further unsettled weather is expected over the coming days and we will be closely monitoring the forecasts and river levels.”
