The Aesthetica Film Festival will be welcoming industry heavyweights from the likes of BBC Film, Aardman and Ridley Scott Associates.

Directors and cinematographers such as Sarah Gavron (Rocks), Mark Jenkin (Bait), Nicolas Brown (1917) Diana Olifirova (Heartstopper) and Kathryn Ferguson (NOTHING COMPARES) will be deivering sessions on their experience working in the industry, from editing, sound design and cinematography to screenwriting, interactive storytelling, games, AI and VR.

There’s a chance to go behind the scenes with multi-award-winning British animation studio Aardman.

BBC Studios will demonstrate what it’s like to work in the Natural History Unit producing series with David Attenborough, whilst Ridley Scott Associates delves into The Future of Storytelling.

Aesthetica also welcomes George Lucas’s VFX studio, Industrial Light and Magic, alongside Oscar-winners Framestore, to discuss the world of visual effects and post-production.

Film4, meanwhile, explores what it means to move from short to long-form film production.

There’s a talk from Ubisoft on narrative design, acknowledging the connection between gaming and filmmaking, and an in-depth look at documentary with Guardian.

One event asks: What is the role of the Intimacy co-ordinator?, whilst another looks at the female gaze and what it means for women to depict women.

Other compelling topics are: Next Level Scriptwriting, Developing Award-Winning Animations; Where to Shoot Your Film; The Power of True Stories and Composing for Screen.

Masterclasses take place live in York from 8-11 November and can be played back On Demand via the Virtual Platform until 30 November. Pre-booking recommended.
