He’s big, he’s purple and he loves to read.

And this friendly Snook will be appearing in our city soon, courtesy of York Mumbler.

The family website will be fostering a Snook in the brand new family friendly character trail launching next year.

The Snooks Trail is an exciting new sculpture trail launching in York in March 2024.

Organised by Make It York with charity partner St Leonard’s Hospice, the trail will take people around York to discover 23 big, bright creatures.

The York Mumbler team is fostering their Snook as a collaboration with the City of York Council fostering team.

The base colour of the Snook is purple, and the final design will be revealed in early 2024.

Family, community and support will be at the heart of the design, reflecting the values of both Mumbler and the fostering team.

A win-win

‘We are so excited to be a part of the Snooks trail. At York Mumbler we are always looking for fun, free activities to share with our York families,” said Mumbler founder Emily Pickard.

“Being able to do that alongside championing the city and supporting great organisations like St Leonards and the fostering team at City of York Council is just a win-win.”

The Fostered Mumbler Snook will be next to the York Central Explore Library on Library Lawn – perfect for a chap who loves books.

York Mumbler will be hosting a programme of family friendly activities over the launch weekend – 2 and 3 March – to make this a ‘must visit’ part of the trail for families.

Corporate director of children’s services and education at City of York Council, Martin Kelly, said: “City of York fostering are delighted to be part of the Snook Character Trail throughout the city.

“By working in partnership with York Mumbler we want to share the creativity and design skills of our children and young people and encourage more families to think about joining our fostering community at City of York Council.

“In York there is an increasing need for foster carers for children and young people who need safe and loving homes.

“Fostering offers a hugely rewarding opportunity to help those children that need a loving home in York.

“As your local authority, we are proud to have a strong community of foster carers, however we need more and would like you to think if now could be the right time for you.”
