A York driver has warned others of a ‘monster pothole’ which has opened on a busy city road.
Beth Smith has got in touch with YorkMix with these pictures which will make every York road user’s heart lurch.
They show a large pothole on Water End bridge, close to the RSPCA headquarters.
She was driving home to Dringhouses last night with boyfriend Steve Austin (Sunday) when their Seat Ibiza gave a bump and they heard a “big bang”.
They had hit the monster hole. It burst the tyre and damaged the wheel “beyond repair”, which Steve had to change at the roadside.
She said: “It bent the steering arm, completely ruined my wheel and popped my tyre.
“So a brand new wheel is needed and a new tyre – but mine’s a limited edition so it won’t be cheap!
“And need my car for work in a community carer so this has been a nightmare!”
They have measured the hole – it is about 22cm deep (nine inches) and 73cm long (29 inches).
She contacted police and City of York Council about the hole last night. In the meantime she said “everyone be warned!”
