Tadcaster Bridge was closed to vehicles for most of today and will stay shut tomorrow (Sunday, 22 October), the authorities have said.
With two flood alerts issued for the River Wharfe, it is closed “as a precaution” say North Yorkshire Council.
Infamously, the bridge collapsed during the floods of 2015. It was rebuilt but still succumbs to floods, like this one last year.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Engineers have this afternoon visited the bridge to make a further assessment on the situation and have made the difficult decision to keep the bridge closed until at least Sunday morning.
“The bridge will remain open to pedestrians so you can still access both sides of the bridge.
“Therefore, please plan your journey and find an alternative route.”
Further updates will be posted on the North Yorkshire Council website and social media channels.
