A flood alert has been issued for York today (Saturday).

It’s for the Upper River Ouse and was last updated by the Government’s flood warning service at 4.13am.

Riverside footpaths and low-lying land in York and to the south as far as Naburn Lock, including Kings Staith, Queens Staith, and South Esplanade, could be covered by floodwater.

The alert says: “Avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding.”

As usual, the rest of the city is unaffected.

According to the Viking Recorder, the level of the River Ouse had reached 2.56m at 10am – the top of the normal range is 1.9m.

It is forecast to rise to 2.62m by 2pm and then start to fall again.
