A large store in York has announced its closure date.
Iceland, the frozen food specialist, will shut its Fulford Road branch at 4pm on Saturday 28 October.
A message to customers says: “Sorry we’re closing… but if you love Iceland you’ll love the Food Warehouse.
“Your Fulford Road Iceland store is permanently closing from 4pm on Saturday 28 October. Your nearest store is York Foss Islands Food Warehouse.”
YorkMix reported in March that the lease of the Fulford Road store was on the market with Briggs Burley. It is our understanding the unit is now under offer.
An Iceland spokesperson told us in March: “Across Iceland and The Food Warehouse, we have a portfolio of over UK 1,000 stores and continually review the retail experience offered to our customers as local shopping patterns change and shop leases expire.”
The Iceland store next to Dunelm at Clifton Moor is closed and still empty. A Food Warehouse has been operating at the shopping centre for several years.
News that the Fulford Road shop was to close caused dismay among some shoppers.
“We have loved having Iceland so handy, and being near Aldi meant we were able to pop from one to the other. So sorry it is closing,” one said on Facebook.
Another said: “That’s rubbish, that’s the only one my neighbours use.”
