Have you ever spotted this tiny house on Bishy Road?
We wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve walked past this hidden gem sandwiched between two houses – but this quirky cottage is actually a holiday home!
Literally called ‘The Little House’, it’s situated at 76A Bishopthorpe Road. It was formerly the surgery for the doctor who lived next door, which is now occupied by the owner.
The one-bedroom property can accommodate two guests and features a kitchen/dining room, bedroom and shower room on the ground floor and a living room on the first floor.
Facilities include shower cubicle, electric oven, electric hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, double bed, Freeview TV, Wi-Fi, and DVD player.
It created quite a stir on the Facebook page York England Photos, with many commenting their memories of The Little House:
“I lived here for a year or so in 2001, it was called the studio flat back then. It also looked very different – the bedroom was upstairs, the stairs were like a ladder, lethal after a night out in York,” wrote Elaine Deeming.
John Shaw commented that it was “built circa 1863 as No.3 Nunthorpe Terrace“, and that it was originally a side entrance for No. 76.
It was also previously a care home in the 1980s called Merlin House for adults with learning disabilities. “I used to work there. It was three houses joined together when I worked there,” Catherine Craven wrote. “I loved it.”
It is now a contemporary and stylish accommodation – perfect for anyone new or familiar to the city who want to stay in a unique location with a lot of history.
