York based creative company Bolshee have teamed up with Young Thugs Studio – to launch a new youth arts project.
The project, titled Bolshee Young Creatives, is a new initiative for young people in York who want to explore their creativity. Participants in the project will work together with industry professionals to plan and put on performances and events.
It is in collaboration with York recording studio Young Thugs.
The project are calling for expressions of interest from young musicians, dancers, artists, DJs, technicians, writers, and more.
It is open for young people aged 8-14 years.
“We want to celebrate all forms of creativity, from drama to design, sound and music to movement and event management,” said Bolshee creative director, Paula Clark.
“We are thrilled to be collaborating with our friends at Young Thugs who will be able to bring a whole other level of industry knowledge and experience to the project.
“Young Thugs also have the same commitment to serving the community as creatively and dynamically as Bolshee does. Let’s make some noise!”
The project will run weekly sessions for 10 weeks each term, starting from January 2024. It will take place at the South Bank Social Club in York.

Bolshee is a York-based and female-led creative projects company. Set up by three artists and friends, they aim to produce projects that help everyone feel heard, empowered and supported – regardless of their background.
Paula, who has 20 years experience running participation and creative projects with children, young people and adults, will run the sessions – along with associate director Lizzy Whynes. Lizzy has worked as a youth theatre practitioner and choreographer at places such as York Theatre Royal, Leeds Playhouse, and the National Theatre.
Completing the Bolshee team is creative producer Megan Bailey.
Everyone at Bolshee has enhanced DBS certificates and have undergone safeguarding and trauma informed training.
