Arlo, a labradoodle who went missing from York in July has been found and reunited with his owner.

As reported by YorkMix previously, Arlo escaped while staying at Moss End Farm Kennels in Easingwold.

An extensive search and appeals on Facebook led to multiple reports of sightings across the area.

When he was found he had gone into survival mode and was living wild.

Antony Smith, Arlo’s dad, told YorkMix Radio: “He recognised us very quickly. Actually, it was really emotional when he sort of recognised us and sort of gave a loud sort of sigh.

“It was incredible. We’ve obviously taken him to the vet today to have him checked out. He’s lost a bit of weight as you , even if he has been eating, he’s been expending a lot of energy running around and avoiding people.

“But he in general terms, he was a bit dirty. smelt a bit of a farmyard but he’s actually in really good condition. He doesn’t seem to have any ticks or fleas so he’s had a bath and he’s just very tired because he’s been on high alert for five weeks.”

This morning (Thursday 17 August) the Have You Seen Arlo York Facebook page announced he had been found returned to his owners Antony and Manon Smith.

They shared a picture of him reunited with his owner in the back of a car.

Mandy Butler, from the volunteer group, Lost Dog Trapping, said it was an emotional reunion but it took Arlo a little time to realise he was going home. They had to lure him into a Humane Trap to catch him at Sheriff Hutton.

“He was in full survival mode, everybody was a threat, even his owners at first. Then

“At that stage he didn’t know who the predators were but then using scent he realised what was happening and was just so excited after 33 days to see his Mum and Dad. He was crying.

“That was amazing. Absolutely amazing.”

She said the reaction and help from the public had been wonderful and she praised the community spirit in and around York.

The Facebook group that helped track him down was inundated with messages of support and relief.

One member said “Oh my ❤️ I have been following along from Brisbane Australia so excited Arlo is home safe and sound wonderful news”

Another summed up what many expressed “Omg amazing can’t believe it what a brilliant post to wake up to”.
