The York outer ring road has reopened.
The A1237 was closed at the Millfield Lane and Rawcliffe roundabouts due to a police incident this evening (Sunday).
North Yorkshire Police said the fire service and paramedics were also there, and the emergency services were working “to bring the incident to a safe conclusion”.
At about 8.10pm, police issued this update: “At 7.24pm this evening North Yorkshire Police received several reports of a person in distress on the A1237.
“Officers attended along with the fire service and the ambulance service.
“The incident has now been brought to a safe conclusion. The person in distress is now in the care of officers and receiving the appropriate help and support.
“The A1237 is now open again. Officers would like to thank members of the public for their patience.”
York Rescue Boat volunteers were also involved. They were out searching for a missing person when police asked for their help.
“Whilst our team were deployed to the search our lifeboat was re tasked at 19.37 by North Yorkshire Police to different concern for safety incident on the bridge over the A1237,” the charity said on X, formerly Twitter.
“Our lifeboat provided safety cover whilst police working with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service and North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service brought the incident to a safe conclusion with the person involved now receiving appropriate care.”
