A mix of live music and sport looks set to draw big crowds to York Racecourse this weekend – with one stand already sold out.
The Music Showcase runs tonight (Friday) and tomorrow, with The Human League headlining this evening followed by Craig David on Saturday.
The performance by The Human League is scheduled from 8.45pm and is expected to run no later than 10.30pm. The racing itself begins at 5pm.
On Saturday, it is a more conventional afternoon fixture, with gates opening at 11.15am, set to be followed by a concert from Craig David.
The music on Saturday is scheduled to end by approximately 7.30pm.
York Racecouse says the County Stand enclosure is full on Saturday. Both the Melrose Club Lounge and Premier Racing Lounge are also sold out.
Racegoers can still gain access to Grandstand & Paddock for Saturday, in order to get close to both the Music Stage and Parade Ring, as well as to have use of the Knavesmire Stand.
Bosses are encouraging people to book online for the Grandstand and Paddock.
The more informal Clocktower Enclosure (known by some as the picnic enclosure) is only ever available for sale on the raceday itself, from 11.15am, so this area will be open on Saturday.
It is sold on a “first come-first served” basis, though it has a capacity that runs into the thousands. Please check our social media for any updates on availability as the raceday unfolds.
A York Racecourse spokesperson said: “The Music Stage is visible from this Clocktower area, albeit from the opposite side of the track. Full use of the big screens and a Festival standard sound system will bring the performance to this area.
“Please note there is limited wet weather cover in the Clocktower Enclosure, so dress accordingly if the forecast indicates rain.”
The first of seven races on Saturday is set for 2.05pm, with the sporting showpiece being the Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes.
Under 18s are admitted free into Clocktower Enclosure and £10 on Stands Side.
There is good availability for all areas on Friday evening, with admission possible on all gates before the time of the last race at 8.20pm.
The racecourse has thanked its neighbours “for their support and understanding”.
