A York school needs repairs and new doors to improve its security.
New Earswick Primary School dates back to 1910 and has about 210 pupils. Now eight of its doors have been found to be “in varying degrees of dilapidation”.
According to a planning application submitted to City of York Council on behalf of the Pathfinder Multi Academy Trust, six can be repaired but two double doors need to be replaced.
“It is the applicant’s belief that the proposed works as outlined in the schedule of works are both vital and overdue,” documents state.
The “much needed repairs as well as replacement of external timber doors” would provide “enhanced safety and security of both staff and pupils”.
The new hardwood doors would help to keep the heat in the school by using double glazing and weather seals.
New Earswick Primary, designed by Parker and Unwin for Joseph Rowntree Village Trust, is a Grade II listed building.
The design approach comes “from the desire to maintain the existing aesthetic of the school as much as is reasonably possible”, planning documents state.
