Looking to donate some time and skills to good causes? Here are some of the latest volunteering opportunities in York.
Volunteer marshal
City of York Council encourages residents to participate in projects that bring benefits to the local community. Suggested by local residents and ward councillors Tour De Tang Hall Cycling Event will have a positive impact on the local community cohesion.
This event is a chance for resident volunteers to show their care for the local community, meet new people, establish and/or join existing community links and groups.
The event will be taking place on Sunday, June 15, 2014, 1pm-4pm. Marshals are required to man the route of the cycling event.
As a volunteer you will be directing cyclists to follow the route. The route in the area of Tang Hall, Derwenthorpe and St Nicholas Fields will be about two miles long. It will be clearly marked and volunteers are expected to attend a 12 noon briefing session on the day.

Volunteer walk leader
If you enjoy walking and would like to encourage others to walk regularly, you could become a volunteer walk leader.
We offer a free volunteer training session at various times throughout the year. It is an informal day of practical advice, delivered locally, which includes information on leading a walk and keeping people motivated.
Volunteers are then supported to lead and back mark walks within the Health Walks scheme. The next training session will be held on Thursday 24th April. Places are limited, so booking is essential.
