Two York academics have been awarded OBEs in the first King’s Birthday Honours, published tonight (Friday).
Professor Jane Hill’s award is for services to conservation ecology.
And Professor Nicola Jane Milner receives her honour for services to archaeology.
Both work at the University of York.
Professor Milner said: “I am delighted to receive this honour which reflects the importance of archaeology.
“It is a great privilege to be able to inspire people in archaeology and hopefully encourage the next generation to take an interest in the past and understand how this relates to the present, and future.
“I have been exceptionally lucky to have been trained and mentored by some incredible people and worked with some amazing teams and I thank them for all their support over the years.”
Professor Hill said: “I am delighted to receive this honour for services to conservation ecology.
“It’s such a pleasure for me to have the privilege of working with fabulous colleagues to address the challenges of how species respond and adapt to modern, human-dominated landscapes, and how to help biodiversity thrive in a world of rapid climate and habitat changes.”
