The councillor who quit the Conservatives may represent the Yorkshire Party in the forthcoming Selby by-election.
As YorkMix reported on Sunday, Mike Jordan resigned from the Conservative Party, leaving them without a majority on the new North Yorkshire Council.
It followed the surpise decision by Nigel Adams to stand down as the MP for Selby and Ainsty with immediate effect.
In an interview with YorkMix Radio Cllr Jordan said that it would make more sense to stand for an existing party rather than as an independent.

Cllr Jordan will continue to represent the constituents of Camblesforth and Carlton on North Yorkshire Council as an independent councillor.
But he has quit the Tories for good.
He told us: “I’m just getting disillusioned with the way the party’s going.
“For instance, immigration – 700,000 again last year, and we built 240,000 houses in this country. So we’re building houses just to cope.
“People keep saying we’re the low tax party, which is a load of rubbish. And that’s starting to impact on people severely.”
As his resignation came hot on the heels of the decision by Conservative Nigel Adams’ to quit as MP for Selby, many speculated that the two events were connected.
Is that right?
“The simple answer is no. I didn’t know about Nigel. I actually put my resignation letter in at 7.50pm on Saturday to say that I was leaving the party Sunday night.
“And then I hear at dinner time that Nigel’s resigned. I couldn’t believe it.”
He said he was seriously thinking about standing in the resulting Selby and Ainsty by-election as the candidate for the Yorkshire Party.
Cllr Jordan isn’t worried about what that could mean for his political career.
“You are what you are and you do what you do and it’s up to you to make a life,” he said. “Nobody else. Political obscurity doesn’t bother me whatsoever. “
He has also thrown his support behind Keith Tordoff in his bid to become the first Mayor of North Yorkshire in next year’s election.
Mr Tordoff has recently been chosen to be the mayoral candidate for the Yorkshire Party.
