Shoppers on one of York’s busiest shopping streets have noticed something new under their feet in recent days.
All sorts of colourful markings have appeared along Spurriergate.
In white, pink and green, and complete with lines and what appear to be measurements, they are clearly an indication of work in the pipeline.
We asked City of York Council what it all meant. And the markings are connected to those legendary bollards that have made a few headlines recently.
A council spokesperson told us: “The markings will be from a ground penetrating radar survey (GPRS) used to determine the location of underground services.
“The GPRS for the hostile vehicle measures scheme will extend along Spurriergate, as a trench needs to be excavated to connect communications cables to the existing network.”
So the markings are in connection with the moving anti-terror bollards which will soon be installed on the street.
And as we’ve seen from the work to install bollards on High Petergate and Lendal, this will mean a whole lot of temporary pain coming to Spurriergate soon…
