A North Yorkshire beach has reopened after fears were allayed that human remains had been found there.
Police cordoned off Filey beach following the discovery of bones at around midday today (Saturday), initially feared to be human.
It was sealed off for more than two hours as a recovery operation took place.
At the time, a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “For awareness, we’ve put a temporary closure on the beach at Filey following the discovery of possible human bones at around midday today (Saturday 13 May 2023).
“We’ll let you know when the items have been recovered and the beach reopens.”
Then at 2.39pm the force shared this update: “We’re pleased to report that the beach at Filey has reopened.
“The bones that were found have been confirmed as belonging to an animal.”
