Things to do

From the Hundred Acre Wood to York – Winnie the Pooh and friends could be seen exploring the iconic sights of the city in the spring sunshine.

The beloved characters created by AA Milne were spotted around York last week, having fun and getting up to antics around some of York’s famous places such as Clifford’s Tower and the Minster.

Let’s take a look to see what they got up to…

Pooh at the Minster

The tour around York started at – where else? – the Minster. Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and Tigger were very impressed by the size of the cathedral, as they are only very small.

They certainly felt like they were far from their treasured trees in the Hundred Acre Wood!

The friends then stopped for lunch to have a picnic in the Museum Gardens – with lots of honey included, of course. Tigger got a bit boisterous and started bouncing up lampposts to say hello to passers by.

And then it was on to the next place!

A trip down the Ouse and a photo with a fan

Pooh and the gang then took a little cruise down the River Ouse, where they basked in the sunshine and took in the many beautiful sights of the city.

After a pit-stop of afternoon tea at Bettys, Pooh snapped a quick picture with a fan outside.

Winnie the Pooh the Musical is at the Grand Opera House later this year

After a busy day, the gang made a final stop at the Grand Opera House – where they’ll be performing in later this year. They were tired out after seeing the sights York has to offer, but they can’t wait to be back this summer!

Winnie the Pooh the Musical is at the Grand Opera House York from Tuesday 1 to Wednesday 2 August 2023.

The musical stage adaptation of Winnie the Pooh – which broke theatre box office records in New York when it premiered in 2021 – features life-size puppetry, new stories and the iconic characters.

The show is inspired by the books by A. A. Milne and the classic Disney featurettes.

Accompanying the modern narrative is an original score by Nate Edmondson, featuring some of the Grammy award-winning songs written by the Sherman Brothers for the original animated features – including Winnie the Pooh, The Blustery Day, The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers and Whoop-De-Dooper Bounce.

Winnie the Pooh the Musical is developed and presented by Jonathan Rockefeller, whose puppetry is featured in the acclaimed productions of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show and Paddington Gets in a Jam.

Puppeteer, voice actor and writer, Jake Bazel stars as the titular character, whose other credits include Sesame Street and The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show. He also played the role on Broadway.

Tickets for Winnie the Pooh the Musical start from £13 and are available via the Grand Opera House York website.
