Michael Morton will see through York City’s crucial relegation battle to the bitter end.
The interim manager will remain in post until the end of the season, the club confirmed today (Thursday).
The news comes as the City faithful become increasingly worried over the lack of news about a takeover of the club.
In a statement today, York City said: “While talks continue on the club’s direction at board level, it was decided that stability on the playing field is the best thing for the team as they battle for Vanarama National League survival.
“During Morton’s interim spell, the Minstermen have picked up key victories at home against Yeovil Town and Dorking Wanderers, as well as beating high-flying Bromley 3-0 away from home.
“In total, City have picked up 14 points from the 11 league games in which Morton has led from the touchline, including the win away at Woking and draws with Scunthorpe United and Boreham Wood.”
Morton said: “Things don’t change from our side, we know what our goal is across these last 6 games.
“The staff, players and fans all need to stick together to keep this great club in the National League.”
The York City Supporters’ Trust, which is overseeing a potential takeover of the club, has not said anything substantial since its statement on 17 March.
Chairman Glen Henderson has agreed to sell his 51% share of the club. The deadline for any takeover is Tuesday (4 April).
Two weeks ago, the trust said there was only one bidder remaining.
The last public statement from the trust came on Tuesday and was released to BBC Radio York reporter David Ward.
It read: “We continue to work constructively with partners towards the 4 April deadline.
“Further updates will be provided in due course.”
In the absence of any more details, many rumours are being shared on City forums, most of them deeply dispiriting for the faithful.
